SERMONS
Jesus Our Example
Jesus existed for eternity in the form of God. He lowered Himself to become like one of us. Then He humbled Himself even to death. Then one step lower—even death on a cross, under the curse of sin. The perfectly holy One who created all things stepped down from the highest of heights to the lowest of lows.
What Are You Living For?
The human heart is like an idol factory—we constantly turn good things into ultimate things. Success, comfort, approval, security promise identity and happiness but can't deliver. They shape our decisions, define our worth, and control our emotions. Whatever fills the blank in "For me to live is..." becomes our functional God, the thing we're building our life around.
Pray Like This
Paul prayed "that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, filled with the fruit of righteousness." He didn't pray for comfort or success, but that they'd grow in love and wisdom, making righteous decisions that bear good fruit—so they'd stand before Jesus filled with the fruit of lives that honored Him.
Starting Churches
Imagine their first church meeting: Lydia the wealthy businesswoman, the former fortune-teller just delivered from a python spirit, the Roman jailer with his whole family. Different nations, different backgrounds. This is the church—learning to love one another, becoming the light of the world to Philippi.
Testing, Obedience and Sacrifice
Two thousand years before Christ, God asked Abraham to sacrifice his "only son, whom you love" on Mount Moriah—the future site of Jesus's crucifixion. God provided a ram in Isaac's place, pointing to the ultimate substitute: Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
Joy, Hope and Freedom Through Jesus
Two ways to live: Hagar and Ishmael represent human effort—anxiety, contempt, slavery. Sarah and Isaac represent God's achievement—joy, hope, freedom. One depends on what you can achieve; the other celebrates what God has done.
God Sees and Rescues
Hagar fled into the wilderness, mistreated and alone. The Angel of the Lord found her there and she called God "El Roi"—the God who sees me. God doesn't just see our circumstances; He sees us personally and comes with rescue and blessing.
Praying with humility and boldness
God invited Abraham to pray not just to get answers, but to form something in him—concern for people, mercy, justice. He wants to implant His character into us through prayer, qualities that get passed on to our children and those around us.
Salvation, Substitution and a Steadfast Hope
Everything we put our hope in can fail—money, popularity, achievements. But God's promise is completely unchanging. Even when we fail, He's faithful again and again, even to the point where He Himself was willing to die in our place.
The Life of Faith: God Provides
Abraham could be incredibly generous with Lot because he knew God had his back. It's much easier to be generous when you trust that God is promising to provide for you richly. True generosity flows from confidence in God's provision.
The Life of Faith: Blessing, Obedience, and Partnership
God is a God of blessing who works 24/7 around the globe. The word "blessed" appears five times in just three verses of Genesis 12. God wants to bless Abraham, but He also wants to bless the whole world.
A Community Sent on Mission
When Jesus called the fishermen, He said, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." That same invitation extends to us. Jesus wants to transform everyone who follows Him into someone who brings His message to the world.
